In the late morning the child, his grandmother and the dog were in the backyard, when for no reason the pit bull “tackled the child,” according to police. The grandmother rushed to free the child from the dog, suffering serious bite injuries herself on the hand, forearm and leg. The dog bit the child on the nose, eye, mouth and cheek. Luckily, his injuries were not as serious as they could have been. The bites, while severe and requiring surgery, are not life-threatening. The victim’s grandfather gave the pit bull and another family-owned dog over to animal control officials.
