CALIFORNIA SPINAL CORD INJURY LAWYER: CAUSES AND SYMPTOMS (PART 1 OF 2)
Spinal cord injuries caused by various incidents such as car accidents and slip and falls; however, the injury depends on two factors. One factor is the location of the injury and the other factor is the severity of the injury. Generally, if the location of the injury is higher on the spinal cord, that will lead to some kind of paralysis. For example, an injury closer to the neck might result in paralysis in your arms and legs while an injury closer to the lower part of the spine will result in paralysis on the lower parts of your body such as your legs. The severity of the injury can be divided into two categories. The first is a partial spinal cord injury which could result in some paralysis but a person still retains some control over their body. The second is a complete spinal cord injury and this will result in a person’s total or near total loss of all kinds of sensations.
There are many symptoms that go along with a spinal cord injury. Some of the symptoms include but are not restricted to: pain caused by the damage to the nerve fibers of your spinal cord, loss of movement, loss of sensation to cold and hot things, erratic reflexes and spasms, changes in your sexual activity, and heavy breathing. After an accident, there are some symptoms that you need to watch out for with spinal cord injuries. They include loss of consciousness, extreme back pain and neck pain, lack of coordination and paralysis in some parts of your body, numbness in your hands and feet, impaired breathing, and difficulty walking and balancing.
