FREEWAY CAR CRASHES CAN BE FATAL: CONTACT A CALIFORNIA ATTORNEY

Freeway collisions are often fatal because cars are travelling at very high speeds and the force of impact is tremendous. There are many reasons why a freeway crash can occur, including: blind spot lane changing, excessive speeding, and just not paying attention to the road. In a recent car accident in Northern California, a driver was going the wrong way on the Interstate 5 freeway. He crashed and two people died as a result of the accident. When a driver goes the wrong way on a freeway, a head on collision will almost certainly result in a fatality due to the high speed and force of a collision.

This accident happened just south of Sacramento, CA, and the drivers of both vehicles were killed in the accident. Four other passengers, including an infant are currently hospitalized.

LOS ANGELES METROLINK CRASH LEAD TO MANY DEATHS AND INJURIES

A Simi Valley bound metrolink train was carrying 225 passengers when it collided head on with a Union Pacific freight train descending into San Fernando Valley. More than 25 passengers were killed and more than 135 passengers were injured in this most unfortunate accident. This accident is one of the worst train accidents in the history of the United States. If you or a loved one has been injured or killed by this horrific train accident, please call us now at Greenberg & Rudman LLP at 1-800-ALAWPRO (1-800-252-9776) to get a free consultation with our experienced attorneys.

The accident happened on September 12th, Friday, at around 4:23 pm. Out of the 135 passengers that were injured 40 of the passengers were critically injured and 81 passengers were transported to nearby hospitals. The impact of the crash was so great that the locomotive of the freight train drove back the metrolink train engine to the shell of the first seating car.

The cause of the accident has been under dispute between certain metrolink officials and railway union workers. Metrolink officials said that a train engineer’s failure to heed a red light caused the horrible accident. However, a representative of the railway union workers is saying that the investigation is premature and some other cause might have been the reason. For instance, the signals might have not been working correctly. The “black box” has not been examined yet.

Train accidents can be fatal because of their velocity and mass. In this catastrophic case, the passenger train was traveling at 42 miles an hour when it hit the freight train. It is extremely hard to prevent train accidents because there are so many things that are going on. By the time someone figures out something is wrong the accident might be inevitable.

CALIFORNIA BURN INJURY ATTORNEYS

A burn injury can be caused by various things including: heat, cold, electricity, chemicals, and even friction. Depending on the location of the body that was burned and the degree of severity, a burn victim may experience many complications such as shock, infection, and distress.
Burns are classified into six degrees. However, most burns are first to the third degree.

  • First degree burns are burns that just affect the epidermis (outermost layer of the skin). The person experiencing the first degree burn will have some minor pain and the affected area will be red.

  • Second degree burns can involve superficial blistering of the skin and will involve pain depending on the level of nerve involvement. Second degree burns will involve the papillary dermis and might affect the deeper reticular dermis.

  • Third degree burns are when the epidermis is lost. There is also some damage to the hypodermis. Victims that have third degree burns will have charring and will be exhibiting loss of hair shafts and keratin. Grafting might be required for third degree burns.

  • Fourth degree burns will damage muscles, tendons, and tissues. These burns will result in charring and extreme damage to the hypodermis. In some cases, the hypodermis may be partially or completely burned away. Grafting is also required for these burn injuries.

  • Fifth degree burns will leave the hypodermis being burnt and will leave the muscle blackened. Fat, nerves, and veins have been destroyed and the burn area is paralyzed. Depending on the size of the burn area, grafting or amputation will be required.

  • Sixth degree burns will leave blackened bone and will definitely require amputation.

LOS ANGELES ELECTROCUTION LAWYER

Electric shock can occur upon contact of a human’s body with any source of voltage high enough to cause significant current. The minimum current a human being can feel is about 1 milliampere. If the current is extremely high then a current can cause serious tissue damage and bodily harm. The terms “electrocution” is commonly misused as a non-fatal electric shock, but fomally electrocution is a term used when a death or fatality is caused by an electric shock.

The voltage that is necessary for electrocution depends on various factors. Some of the factors include the strength of the current that runs through the body and the duration of that current. Also, a person’s skin might be a significant factor. Dry skin is a poor conductor that will have a resistance of around 100,000 ohms. However, broken or wet skin may have a resistance of only 1,000 ohms.

Males have typically a higher lethal current than females due to a larger amount of tissue in there bodies. Death can occur from currents as low as 0.1 amperes. If a person experiences an electric current of 0.001 amperes, the physiological effect would be a feeling of an electric shock and some pain. However, it would still be considered harmless. This is also true with a current of 0.005 amperes. Up to 0.005 amperes, the current will be considered harmless. If the current is between 0.01 to 0.05, a person will experience sustained muscular contraction and will have problems breathing. Also, there will be some ventricular interference but the current itself will not be fatal to a human being. However, once the current is above 0.1 amperes there will be ventricular fibrillation and the current can be fatal. The defibrillator which is commonly used to revive patients carries a current of about 6 amperes.

Have you or someone that you know been exposed to electric shock in California? If so, call us at the law office of Greenberg & Rudman LLP at 1-800-252-9776 (1-800-ALAWPRO) now and get your free consultation from one of our experienced attorneys. The recent Metrolink tradgedy this weekend has rocked the residents of Simi Valley leaving them shocked and grief-stricken. Recent reports indicate that Metrolink is blaming their own engineer for the tragedy for failing to stop at a red light. Passengers who are regular commuters commented that the Metrolink train commonly stopped at the junction to wait for a Union Pacific freight train to continue down the tracks, but this time they did not wait. The fact that the Metrolink train ran the red light caused an alarm to be triggered in the line’s dispatch center located in Pomona. A Metrolink dispatcher tried calling the train’s engineer, but by then it was too late and the accident had already occurred.
