As of the January 1, 2009, it will be illegal to write, send or read text messages while driving in California. This new law is designed to protect people on the road from the dangers that can ensue from driving and text messaging. Many car crashes and injuries are thought to have occurred as a result of texting while driving. Being distracted while reading or composing a message can have deadly results. Reports that the driver of the Metrolink train which crashed in Chatsworth was texting prior to the crash have surfaced. A Highland teenager was thought to have died in a crash directly after texting. While it may be too late for some, from New Years Eve on, California will join 6 other states in making texting while driving will be illegal.
