Every day household products can hold potential danger for families, especially small children. If a product is defective or designed in a dangerous way, an injury resulting from its usage may have legal repercussions. When a child gets hurt or killed in their home from an everyday appliance, the effect is devastating. A 4-year old girl who was killed in a washing machine made recent headlines in Southern California. Now Federal officials are investigating whether the safety standards to which washer manufacturers are held are high enough. If you or a loved one has been hurt or killed by a household product or appliance, get help by calling 1-800-ALAWPRO to speak to a California lawyer for free.

The child who died was living in Mission Viejo. The washer in her home was a front-loading model whose controls were 20 inches above the floor. The girl’s toddler brother switched on the machine after she crawled in, and sadly the child died at the hospital. As a result the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is investigating the safety standards of front-loading washers. Currently, top loaded washing machines have a mechanism that stops the agitator from operating when the lid is open. Front loaders do not require the same safety regulation.
