MINI CAR DANGER: UNSAFE IN HEAD ON COLLISIONS. CALL CRASH LAWYERS OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA.

Posted On: April 24, 2009

In the current economy, people are looking for ways to save. One solution drivers are using is trading in their midsize, full-size or larger vehicles for popular mini cars. While mini cars may be cheaper and less expensive on gas, are they really a better choice for safety? It appears that the answer is no. A study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) found that minicars fare more poorly than larger cars in head on crashes. Analysts say a minicar can be a deadly choice compared to a large vehicle due to their smaller size and smaller weight. Have you or someone close to you been involved in a crash in a minicar in Southern Cal? Then call 1-800-ALAWPRO to speak to a lawyer for free.

The IIHS report involved three different mini car models: the Smart Fortwo, Toyota Yaris and the Honda Fit. In the experiment, they crashed the mini car with a midsized model by the same makers, with each car traveling 40 miles per hour. As the cars collided head on in an 80 mph crash, the smaller minicar occupants, crash test dummies “fared poorly.” Seemingly, size was the overwhelming factor in the results. Had larger vehicles impacted the mini cars, the results might have been worse. Injuries incurred from head on car crashes include brain and spinal injuries, neck and back injuries, broken bones, paralysis and death. To learn more about car crashes and who is to blame, visit our website at www.alawpro.com.

DEATH BY DROWNING IS LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH FOR KIDS IN LA COUNTY. CHILDREN AT RISK IN POOLS, HOMES & PARKS.

Posted On: April 21, 2009

With winter behind this year, Southern Californians are taking to the water, and that can mean danger for adults and children alike. Child drownings are the leading cause of death for children age 1-5 in LA County. A child can drown in obvious places such as private and public swimming pools, but also in less likely places such as bathtubs, buckets and sinks. Water and swimming areas at parks, beaches, private homes and public and youth recreational facilities can hold hazards for young ones. If you or a loved one has been a drowning victim in LA, call a personal injury attorney for free now at 1-800-ALAWPRO now.

Recently, a 3-year old girl was hospitalized in serious condition after a drowning incident in Winetka pool. Sadly, drowning is the number one killer of LA children 1-5 years old. Swimming pools at people’s homes account for 70% of those fatalities. Nationally there are 1,000 child drowning deaths annually. There is a debate about whether swimming lessons for children under 5 increase or decrease drowning potential. Some say lessons give parents and children a false sense of security. Medical experts recommend professional lifeguards in all situations where children are swimming, including home pool parties. To learn more about premises liability in public and private areas, visit our website at www.alawpro.com.

LA CANADA-FLINTRIDGE TRUCK CRASH: UNSAFE ROAD? CONTACT CA PERSONAL INJURY LAWYERS NOW

    Posted On: April 14, 2009

For the second time in 6 months a big rig truck accident has occurred on the same LA area highway. With 2 dead and 13 injured between both accidents, the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) has put a temporary ban on trucks on the Route 2 (Angeles Crest Highway). Some are saying the action is too late, and that the latest crash and fatalities could have been prevented. Dangerous roads can be the responsibility of CalTrans or other municipal authorities. Learning who is responsible for protecting residents from life-endangering conditions on Southern California roadways can be complicated. To get more information on premises liability and hazardous road design, please visit our website at www.alawpro.com. Or call 1-800-ALAWPRO now to speak to a Southland lawyer for free.

The most recent accident happened when a tractor-trailer carrying cars lost its brakes, crashing into a bookstore and other cars. The truck took a mountainous route forbidden to truckers on his way to the wreck site. Two people, a father and daughter, died in the crash and 12 others were injured. The crash occurred at an intersection of Angeles Crest Highway in La Canada Flintridge. In a September big rig truck crash on the same road, one person was injured, and local authorities asked for a truck ban at that time. Sadly it seems as thought the most recent fatal collision may have been preventable.

MACY’S LEAD NECKLACE RECALL. PRODUCT LIABILITY LAWYERS OF CALIFORNIA ARE HERE FOR YOU.

Consumers purchase products in the United States with the expectation of safety. Sometimes however, regulators discover that certain products are dangerous to the public and decide to issue a recall. As recently occurred with the peanut salmonella outbreak, food is a common recall product. Medications are also commonly recalled by the FDA. With medicines, packaging, contamination or new information can make these pharmaceuticals dangerous to their users. Lead products can pose a threat to children and adults alike. Lead in paint, toys or jewelry can cause lead poisoning. Lead poisoning can be a silent killer as it is often symptom free. Seizures, coma, behavioral problems, learning disabilities and death can all result from lead products. Recently a necklace made by Pecoware Co. and sold by retailers including Macy’s has been recalled due to lead content and misleading labeling. Learn more about product liability by visiting www.alawpro.com. If you or a loved one has been injured by a product such as food, medication, toys or jewelry in California, call 1-800-ALAWPRO to speak to a lawyer for free.

The recalled necklace is making Los Angeles headlines now because Macy’s, one of its retailers, is refusing to release the names of the people who purchased it. The manufacturer, China-based Pecoware, and retailers, have been charged with false advertising. The jewelry was labeled “lead nickel free.” Macy’s sold the most necklaces of any other store. Following is a description of the necklaces that have been recalled:

    (1) cat with pink and silver rhinestones pendant on silver-colored chain
    (2) lock, key & heart with pink jewels pendant on silver-colored chain
    (3) silver colored heart enclosing a jeweled crown pendant on silver-colored chain
