On April 2, we blogged about an active case regarding necklaces sold by Macy’s and other retailers that contained dangerous amount of lead, though they were advertised as being “lead-free.” Now a similar set of circumstances is unfolding in the Los Angeles area. California state regulators have seized jewelry, misleadingly and incorrectly labeled as lead-free, in warehouses and stores throughout SoCal. Mislabeling products and selling products deemed to be dangerous is illegal. If you or a loved one has been hurt or injured due to such products, which can include jewelry, paints, toys, and food, get legal help now by calling 1-800-ALAWPRO. In all, 33 pieces of jewelry were found to be containing dangerously high levels of lead. Some of the jewelry was meant for children, and all if it was imported from China. One of the children’s necklaces seized was made up of 74% lead. Lead poisoning can be dangerous and deadly especially to children. Brain damage and other long-term problems can ensue from swallowing lead products.
