On October 12, 2009, a motorcyclist was killed exiting a parking lot in Riverside. An Amtrak train hit a car on the tracks on October 18, 2009. The accident occurred around 9 p.m. when a car was left on the railroad tracks. The occupants of the car, a mother and her daughter, got out of the car right before the train hit. It is still unclear how many people were injured on the train. On September 25, 2009, Toyota Motor Company recalled 3.8 million vehicles in the United States because of a safety issue involving a rubber floor mat. It is reported that the floor mat on the driver’s side of Toyota’s cars may be ill fitted or unsecured and may cause the accelerator pedal to get stuck. The accident occurred when Fullenwider tried to make a U-turn but was hit by a pickup truck.

When there is a civil lawsuit filed in court, the party who filed the claim (plaintiff) against the alleged wrongdoer (defendant) must meet certain elements before they can win their lawsuit.
