REAR END CRASHES AT RED LIGHT CAMERA INTERSECTIONS. GET A LAWYER IF YOU’VE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT IN LOS ANGELES.
Drivers in Los Angeles are familiar with an increasingly common sight: the red light camera. At busy intersections all over LA, cameras posted near traffic lights flash as vehicles run red lights. Intersection crashes can occur in all sorts of ways including drivers running red lights, or others slamming on their brakes to avoid them. Rear-enders and head on collisions are two of the most frequently occurring accidents at intersections. If you or a loved one has been hurt at an LA area intersection involving a red-light camera, call 1-800-ALAWPRO to speak to a lawyer for free.
A local news station has conducted their own investigation as to whether cameras at traffic intersections are making Los Angeles roads more or less safe. Their findings showed that in most instances red light cameras resulted in an increase in the number of crashes at the intersection. They also propose that camera installation is essentially a way for city governments to produce revenue. There are 32 LA intersections with operational red light cameras. The news station found that accidents were actually up at 20 of those since the cameras were put in. At a few of the intersections, the number of crashes tripled. It appeared that many of the accidents were rear end collisions that occurred when drivers slammed on their brakes to avoid running the light and receiving the ensuing ticket.
