The man, a musician, is now a quadriplegic requiring 24-hour care for life. In icy conditions, the van ran off a freeway and rolled. The seat the victim was sitting in came loose due to a defective latching mechanism, and he struck the roof with his head.

3. An SUV carrying 8 teenagers to prom overturned on the 110 in LA. One of the occupants died, and the 7 others were hospitalized and released. The dead victim may have been thrown from the automobile. It appeared that the driver of the SUV was swerving to avoid a vehicle during a lane change.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has released a preliminary report regarding the deadly tour bus crash that killed 5 people in Soledad recently. As cited in an earlier blog, the tour bus, operated by Orion Pacific, was carrying visitors from France when it crashed on the 101 in Northern California. Four passengers and the driver were killed in the accident that happened on a freeway overpass.

Per the new report, driver error seems the likely cause of the fatal accident. It appears that the driver poorly negotiated the overpass curve, and as a result, the bus slammed into the guardrail and turned over. There have now been two high injury count tour bus accidents in California in less than a week. The first crash was a deadly in Salinas in which four tourists died. The Orion Pacific bus was the only vehicle involved in the crash.

The most recent air crash occurred on a small plane’s approach to Butte, Montana. The area around California State University, Northridge (CSUN), is shaping up to be one of the most dangerous for pedestrians in the San Fernando Valley. More disturbing evidence of inappropriate behavior by the Metrolink engineer of the doomed Chatsworth collision is surfacing. The accident that killed 25 and injured at least 130 people happened when the commuter train crashed into a Union Pacific freight train last year. In addition to having sent many text messages while driving the train, now investigators say that the engineer had a teenager in the train while moving and offered to have him operate it.
