A new study by the Federal Railroad administration has cited Metrolink, Greater Los Angeles' rail line, as the third most dangerous train system in the entire country. A new report by the Los Angeles Times reveals that Metrolink chose not to install an automatic brake system 20 years ago. Metrolink, LA's rail line, has been involved in 38 passenger deaths since 2008. Most recently, a Metrolink crash with a Union Pacific freight train in Chatsworth killed 25 people and wounded 135. A southbound Caltrain struck a tractor trailer in Burlingame causing significant delays. A spokesperson for Metrolink has admitted that the cause of Friday’s deadly head-on crash between a Metrolink commuter train and a freight train in Chatsworth was due to their engineer who failed to stop at a red light. The deadly crash occurred Friday, September 12th, 2008 at approximately 4:30pm in the Los Angeles suburb. Over 200 people were riding the commuter train when it slammed head-on into the oncoming train. As of now, 25 people are dead as a result of the collision and over 130 are injured. 45 of the injured are considered in critical condition, and over 40 were flown to local area hospitals for urgent care. Another 40 people were treated at the site of the crash, but were later taken to hospital for treatment, and approximately 50 were able to walk away with minor physical injuries.

A woman was killed when a train crashed into her car in San Bernardino, California. The accident happened around 4am.
